I’ve had a rubber lipped pleco in my fantail goldfish tank for about 6 months. Just now, I found him after they had flipped him over. I scooped him into a little breeder box, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong with him. He seems to be having trouble breathing, and tends to flip over when he tries to swim around. Is there anything I can do to save him?

He will be most likely to die. What are the water parameters, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

Have you seen the goldies bothering him? Although its most likely to be a disease or have you put something in the tank recently?
What size is the tank? How much goldies do you have in?

They rarely bother him, he spends most of his time hiding and blends into the gravel. They’ve been in there for around two years, I haven’t added anything else but the pleco. There are two fish, both lived in a big pond (originally they were rescued) but they never got any bigger, and since they’re around 6 years I assumed they wouldn’t really grow much more. The tank is 55 gallons, so the two of them don’t really overdo the bioload.

Are those spots normal? Looks like fungus maybe?

That’s actually just the box, the camera reflection. He doesn’t seem to have any visible signs of disease.

Interesting. It even looks fuzzy in the picture
