Can you keep a Red Tailed Black Shark with convict cichlids in a 20 gallon

From past experience I would say no - not a good idea to house them together. Both are territorial and the RTBS seems to need a wide area of territory (around 3ft) and anything that comes within that scope will be bullied. Now, convicts are also of the same temperament and will fight back - in fact, I found that the convicts always won and my RTBS was forced into submission and ended up hiding behind the filter, sometimes too afraid to come out for food. Obviously, once I realised the mistake I'd made putting them together (on advice from the LFS!) I rehomed him.

I don't put anything in with my convicts now!

Regards, Athena

I have a RTBS and a Convict together with no problems in my 4ft, but like i said earlier 20g is to small for a Convict, let alone 'convicts' and to small for a RTBS also.

No its to small, i would say nothing under a 40 for Convicts.
