I'm currently setting up a planted 25 gallon tank(32inch long). I will probably put some tiger barbs and some other fish (undecided, but probably tetras, danios, etc...). Will my tank be big enough to hold a RTB shark?? I know that they can grow pretty big, and can get aggressive, so I am unsure if it is possible :/ . thanks!!

just make sure that the tank has many caves and plants and few inhabitants
barbs would go well with the RTBS as they stick mostly to the top and are able to hold their own (as they are fast and tough)
just put as little fish in there as possible
maybe 5 barbs and some other fast top dwellers
(there are several types of barbs and schooling tetras that would stay top dwelling and suite your tank well)

I'm thinking about having a similar set up. Right now i have 4 Zebra Danios and may add Tiger Barbs and one RTB Shark later on. From what i've read about Tiger Barbs it would be best to have a school of at least 6 to minimize any nipping tendencies. You may want to add a few Danios as well since they are fast swimmers and can escape any marauding Barbs or Sharks. Also make sure you get just one shark and provide some caves for it.

In my signiture, I have a 35 gallon with barbs, danios, and a RTBS. I love it. The danios chill out at the top. The barbs cover the middle mainly and the shark just patrols the bottum. I have never had an altercation other than once my biggest tiger barbs took a nip at the sharks dorsal fin. The shark did not even move. Sometimes I think my RTBS thinks he is a barb because he likes to swim right in the middle of their shoal.

Do not get tigers unless you can handle 6 or more. Any less and you will probably have all but one starving to death in a corner because the dominant fish wont let them come out. Plus, that dominant fish wont be chasing any of your other fish anymore either; he will be chasing his own kind. It works out, trust me. :flex:

Hey, :)

In a 25 gallon tank you can have a rtb shark as long as he is the only rtb in the tank. They can get 6" long so you have to make sure that you don't overstock. He should also to have a place to hide...rocks or a cave are good. DO NOT put any long finned fish in the tank.

A rtb would be good with Zebra Danios as they are quite fast and can get away if chased. Tetras could depending on what kind you want. What kind did you have in mind?
Tiger Barbs will work well but they need to be in larger groups to avoid fin nipping. This could be a problem because it will limit what else you can put into your tank due to size(if you add many barbs) and the amount of aggression in your tank. For example, six barbs and 1 rtb shark would be about 18 inches of fish...it doesn't leave you much room to work with if you are considering other large fish(or a few different kinds) as well.

Just my opinion...

Thanks for all of the advice :D I actually got a 33 gallon, which was cheaper than the 25 gallon. It has an undergravel filtration system, but I'm going to replace that.

I plan on having some live plants and use an emperor 280 filter, so it shouldn't be too bad if it is overstocked.

Right now I'm look at: 1 Red tailed black shark, 6 or so tiger barbs, and 4 zebra danios, or rasboras. Sound ok??

the shark barbs and danios will make for an excellent tank. Just make sure to get 6. The tank never stops moving, energetic all the time :flex:

Hi,

Wow. Good for you. :)
I would go with the Danios instead of the Rasboras. You should have a great active tank and you would not be overstocked.
