Royal Plec Gone Dark(ill Looking)

Hes about 7 inches long and I've had him about a year. Hes always been a great looking fish and very full bellied

last couple of days I've noticed he looks very dark and his skin a strange consistency as if the mucus is coming off?

I have no idea what could be up? any ideas

When fish lose the mucus covering, it's usually a sign of something wrong with your water parameters.
Can you test the water - if so, what's your nitrite and ammonia readings? Do you know the Ph?

I don't test the waater and probably should. I'll get a kit on pay day this week

I move him yesterday to my 75g tank which just has a bichir and pike cichlid in. less food goes in there so probably better water. he seems slightly better today. I shall keep an eye on him
