Ok, so I went to "That Fish Place" today for live plants and of course had to check out the bettas (duh). They had tons in the usual cups. But in a whole bunch they had these bettas they called "roundtail" bettas. The tails were small and rounded. Any ideas? They also had imbellis too, so they were labeled as such. I wouldn't know if they really were or not, but I think they only cost something cheap like $5.99 and they weren't marked what sex they were.

Did you happen to notice "that fish place" has tank size recommendation (SP) size for bettas at 1/4 gallon!!!!!!

I did just notice that. I was rather disappointed to see today at the store that they carry a bunch of those unsuitable, ie. too small betta containers at the store. It is a neat store but there could be some improvements done. I was unhappy with the quality of thier live plants. There were snails in all the plant tanks and some kind of white worm in one of the them too. The betta cups were kind of dirty too and they must have had a hundred or more. I wonder if they keep track of how long they've been there or if they ever clean the water in the cups, etc.

That's kinda the way my two lfs's are. They have everything else I need, but it's so hard to buy from them b/c of their lack of taking care of their fish.

I have a LFS that's owned by this oldish guy, and it isn't the most high-tech place but he knows a lot about fish, and takes care of them. When he had bettas (only 2-3 at a time), they are kept in quart jars, and that's a good size for fish stores to keep them in. But if you have 100+ in a store, its hard too keep that many quart jars.

my favorite lfs has them in quart jars too. He only keeps 5 but they're all vts :/ and male :/ . My second fav keeps them in suction cuppedboxes in the main tanks :/ those boxes are really tiny, but the bettas are in good health. But my favs are in good health too. They always have a bubble nest!

GRRR I went into an LFS, one that has been rude in the past, and one that all the employees thought columnaris was fungus. Well i was sick today and it was on the way home from work so i saud i will give tham a third chance. I asked for fry food, and he said, "I dont have any, but you dont need it, you can just crunch flakes for adults." Which is true, and I've been told that before. But everytime I ask them for something they tell me, "You dont need that" and send me out the door. I dont have a clue how they stay open...
