Are rosy barbs schooling fish? Are the messy? I read on the tropical fish index they get to be about 2-3" but I seem to recall the sticker on the tank saying 4". Of course I would take your alls word over petcos :) Anyways the reason I ask is my gf wants to add a rosy barb to my 10 gal. I may have to move the female betta and the guppy because the tank is already pretty full. I don't really want to add it, but I want to get her to quit bugging me

Rosy Barbs are better in groups of 4 or more. They grow to more then 4"/100mm in the wild but rarely reach that size in captivity. For once, PetCo may be right 3"/75mm would be a good size in good tank conditions.

They are an active species that likes a lot of swimming space. A tank as small as yours is not really going to do them any favours at all. I would suggest it would be a bad idea to add this species.

For a tank that size, a small non shoaling barb would be the Cherry Barb. These are best kept as a pair, or possibly a trio 1 male 2 females. 2 males together in a small tank will often fight.

I had 4 rosy barbs in my 55 gallon. They were about 3" long and they were VERY hyper. Always chasing each other and nipping at whatever was in their way. 10 gallons is not good for them at all. You'll need to stick to much smaller fish that don't need a school. Save your $$$ and go for a bigger tank :D :D :D

i have 4 rosy barbs 2 of them are about 5"

a bigger tank will be need

they are also very active

I have 7 in my 46gallon - they are definitely happier in this bigger group. When I tried to separate 2 out for breeding, they about spazzed out on me so I decided to nix those plans.

Actually - my cories, rainbowfish and my rosy barbs all seem to think they're in one big shoal/school together :p

Definitely check out the cherry barb - much smaller and much better suited for the smaller tank.

Rosy Barbs are crazy fish. When I put my hand in my tank to do maintenance the all swarm around my arm and start biting it. :) They are very fun to watch

Is it safe to put 4 rosey barbs in the same tank as tinfoil barbs?
I have a 29gallon tank with tigerbarbs and 2 rosey barbs and want to remove the rosey barbs and give them more swimming space in a 55 gallon with my two tinfoil barbs. Is this a good idea? I don't want my rosey barbs nipping at my tinfoil barbs or vice-versa.

29 gallon
5 tiger barbs
2 rosey barbs
2 tinfoil barbs

Starting a 55g and removing 2 rosey from the 29g (adding 2) and the two tinfoil barbs.

Tinfoil Barbs grow very large, they can easily grow to more then 12"/300mm. Although peaceful, fish that size should not really be mixed with small fish, their size alone frightens small fish.
