my frend toll me the pleco stop growing in my tank.-he need big tank to grow...im new in this so i dont have idea...

Oh the age old "it wont grow any bigger than the tank you put it in"

This is unfortunately only partially true. Fish secrate growth inhibiting hormones into the water. When these build up, they stuint the growth of all fish, eventually killing them.

So yes, he might not grow as big, but he'll likely die too.

'Fish only grow to the size of the tank' is a myth, there external body stops growing but their internal organs keep growing causing a slow and painful death, the fish release a hormone into the water which stunts them.

snake that's just not true. A fish will grow quite happily to its full size as long as regular water changes are made to keep the growth inhibiting substances (not hormones) down. And its internal organs will never outgrow its body, that's pure myth.

there is some haphazard evidence that very high nitrate cause stunting.

it's very old evidence, and not to much has been done on the matter. Same old same old...this is why we tend to use anecdotal evidence more so.

So your saying if you put a a 1 inch oscar into a 3 gallon tank, it will reach its adult size if you do water changes?

can i buy some snails for my fish tank??? and how many???
thanks

What kind of snails are you thinking of?

but you want to sort out the problems your tank is having beofre you think about adding anything else.

You need the ammonia and nitrite levels to be stable at 0 for a week, without needing any water changes, to make sure the filter can cope with the extra bioload.

my water is good now.
my friend told me i don't have to change water every week and once a year is good. so don`t change water for 4 months and (green)alge was everywhere.
now my water is clean and good i change 15% every week...

what is best snails for me for my tank??? mystery snails is good???

I wouldn't listen to your friend!

Weekly water changes are good for your fish and your plants, as it brings in new trace minerals, as well as removing wastes. Between 30 and 50% a week should be done.

Mystery snails do well in tanks of that size, but don't forget you really need to think about rehoming your plec and black moor, as they're not really suitable to live with the other fish you have.
