I have had the tank for over two years now, and I must admit it has been a bit neglected recently due to pressure of work. But today I have had a good spring clean and a count up of what's in there at the moment, and this is what I've got:

6 zebra danios
5 x-ray tetras
3 or 4 neon tetras (hard to count them lol)
1 bristlenose plec
1 platy (must be the hardiest fish ever, all its friends died over a year ago and this one is still going!)

Could I fit a centrepiece of some kind, maybe a gourami, or would that be pushing my luck?

I have tested for ammonia (only test I could find) this morning and it came up trace only, need to get the other tests and some new plants when I go shopping.

I wouldn't be adding any more fish to the tank tbh :D

You don't want traces of ammonia readings so best not to add to that and create more issues :)

i hate when people use liters... how many gallons is it??

i have a tendancy to put more fish in for its size and space becuase i like to look over and see fish but ill give my oppinion if i can see how many gallons 60 liters are

Oops sorry, it is 60 litres
don't be sorry, you put it in the title...

i'm not sure but for those that like their measurement in US gallons thats 15.9 (may as well say 16)

was that not good enough?

right, i've just re-read what you already have...

to be honest, you've filled half the tank with tetras of a couple of different types, even when dif types shoal together, they're still happier about a big shoal of just them,

so, i'd take out all the tetras, and put something nice as a centrepiece, not sure if an apisto would work in there. but thats me, they might be your faves.

also, as said, sort your ammonnia first

this site has a convertor, check the calculator page on the main navigation at the top of the page

I have a google search bar on my internet browser. I just type '60l in US Gal' and because google is all dynamic and such now you don't even have to press enter it just gives a drop down thing with the result.

But you can literally just type that into google and it'll do it for you.

When you say 'take out the tetras', what do you suggest I do with them? I dn't have another tank to put them in, and I don't want to kill them off. I hav had the x-rays for about 2 years!

Put them up for sale on here, or see if your LFS will take them. Almost all would take them for nothing, some might offer some store credit. I would replace the danios. They are strong swimmers and need a lot of space. Then you could up your tetras to 6 of each and maybe get a couple of honey gouramis for something a bit different shaped. You'd be at about the same stocking as you are now then.
After 2 years, you would expect no ammonia which does imply the filter might not be up to scratch. Which one are you using?

The stocking in your first post should pose no problems what so ever with ammonia and personally I think nothing needs changing, something else is causing it, any rotting plants? how old are your test kits and which brand are they?
