Hi All

Please could someone advise on the below problem

I have a Roma 90 which I love to bits; however I have decided to remove the U2 internal filter & replace with an external one. I have kept with Fluval products, so the external is the new 206. This will also be used on my next Roma tank (a lot bigger)

I have connected the filter fine; however the problem is closing the Light Back lid. This will not shut due to the hosing in the way. I have spoken to people on the internet who advised you will need to cut the Lid for this to close correctly. I am unsure about this as it will void my warranty I was hoping there was a modified lid for using external filters; if not how I am to close the Lid without damaging the warranty.

Thanks

Just to double check: do you know to move all the media from the old filter into the new one?

This is something that you need to speak to Hagen about, their website has information on how to contact them.

I would personally expect that a hood modification will not affect the warranty on the tank or lights, but I would also check with the manufacturer. Hagen do not sell modified lids, as far as I am aware.

Hi there. No personal experience with the 90, but I did have the 125. That model had some little sections that you snapped out so the inlet and outlet pipes fitted in without altering the appearance of the tank. I would have thought that the 90 had this option too.

A little hard to explain, but they're kind of crimped to make the outline thinner so they can be easily removed. Does that make sense? Lol.

I have just heard back from Hagen, and they advised my Warranty will be ok, so I just need to modifi my Lid.
It's very strange they dont modifi there own products to work with new ones they create.

I was going to run my U2 Filter with the Externel for 4 weeks, then remove the U2.

Thanks

Here you go...

Page 9 under 'features' it's the last picture. They call it a scored canopy.

Very strange my Tank doesn't have this, maybe its something on the newer tanks all I have is a grove on each side for the cables to run through.....wonder is this would hold the externel hose

will have to have a look

thansk

Is there not a scored oblong shaped outline? If not then you will have to get creative with a hacksaw.

The new Roma's don't have this, its bloody stupid, they changed the design so you now have to cut the lid instead, which is massive flaw. Lots of Maidenhead Aquatic shops are selling them off cheap now as the profit margin is crap, so over the summer you will see their own brand stuff moving in to replace the crap new Fluvals.

I highly recommend you get a hole cutter for your drill instead of butchering it with a hacksaw if you want a clean finish.

I'm lucky, i have the old Roma with the cut away tabs. :D

Hi All

Well luck seems to be on my side, I have checked the back of the tank......and it looks like I have the old tank.
my cables seem to be resting on 2 cut away tabs for the external.

They look very weak and with some movement could snap of, i will check this out on the weekend.....fingers crossed it will work

Thanks

Winner! What i did on my Vicenza was use a sturdy pair of scissors to cut down the lines then just snap it off at the bottom. On my Roma 125 i just snapped them out with a bit of force. Both methods worked fine.

Glad you're going to get it sorted. :)

Thanks, yes touching wood and praying.

The only other problem is setting up the External, sort off made a small mistake with the hosing.......might have made 1 to short.
I had to spend another £12.00 on E-bay for a fresh hosing (DOH)

Will take time this weekend and get it right, ahhhhh the pain but worth it!!!!

Thanks
