Hiya all,

im wanting a 4 foot tank and these Roma 240 seem very nice for £320 which is the max of my budget but im curious on the cabinet as i know the 2 end sections are "push to open - reversable" doors but what about the middle bit ? does that open etc or is it a fixed solid bit ?

Sorry if this has been talked about elsewhere ive tried the search button but cant seem to find the answer.

I also greatly welcome any other suggestions for a 4 foot tank (around the 240 litre) but max budget really is 320 (which included external filter etc) or if there opinion on the Roma 240

Thanks in advance
Mark

the middle bit doesnt open its just the 2 doors either side. my push to open seems to have given up and ive had to fit handles on the doors. also around the top of the tank is a plastic trim that water can get underneath causing it to drip down the front. if i knew this before i set it up i would have siliconed around the inside to keep the water in but too late now....! nice tanks apart from that though although the fluval externals get bad right ups and dont live up to the internal range they do. ive now sold mine and got better replacements.

Yeah I get the drip thing really annoying. One thing to add though I got mine second hand with a fluval FX5 for £150 so make sure you look around :)

So is the middle bit blocked off or does one of the sides open and its like double deep (if that makes sense) ?

And thanks for the info on the top, i'll make sure to seal it (if i go for the Roma 240) which im very tempted to.

The middle space is accessible from 1 of the door, as to which door it totally depends on who built it as you can decide at that time.

Also to the guys/gals who are having problems with the front of the tank dripping, are you sure you're not overfilling it? I fill my tank up to the point that I just about can't make out the water line when viewing the tank from outside.

no i dont over fill it, i keep it just below thw max fill line on the left by a few cm. if one of my discus gets excited and comes to the surface fast for food and splashes near the front i get water dripping down the front of the tank. its a common fault with the tank.

I've had a Roma 240 for just over a year now and it's been great.

I have also had to add handles to the doors as they became difficult to open without.

I have never had the dripping problem and find the Fluval filter to be great although I have added a Eheim Pro III 350 to increase filtration capacity and water flow as my Tropheus can be rather messy.

I hope to buy another Roma 240 very soon. :)

Well, not wanting to repeat the previous replies I just want to add that I love mine. Yes the right hand door on mine does stick a little but hey it's only a tank cabinet.

Middle is fixed, excessable from one or other of the left or right doors

added....no dripping from mine no matter how far up I fill it.....just lucky I guess?

Many thanks for all your advice everyone, my wife (bless her) found what we think was a bargain, she found me a Juwel rio 300 in very good condition with a ton of extra bits for £100, I had to borrow my mothers rav 4 and flat pack the base to fit it in but now its rebuilt in my room it gives me the wow factor when i walk in.. Shopping now for a external filter.

I had a tetratec 1200 in last tank which i thought was very good so might get another, had a fuval 403 (or might of been a 404) and that kept leeking, im guessing the X05 ones are better but i'll see what the wife finds next :)

Once again i thank you all, its nice to know there are people about who are willing to take the time to help us newbies :)
