Cat litter is that for your cat fish :D the sharp sand has a silicone in it,i went with play sand and might get red & black to go through it,as for my wood i might drill holes in it and use cable ties to hold them together,if i was to silicone it or glue it id never get it out of the tank lol, still need to find rocks  as B&Q had nothing suitable for what am looking.

For rocks you can try asking around at your local landscaping centre for some free samples or on construction sites for "scrap rocks". That's if you can't find a store that carries the specific stones you're looking for.

tried a garden centre or two but no joy, never thought on construction site/building site, there is one just up the top of my road so i will pop up there and see the builder ;) good thinking Dominus

Rainwater itself wont do any harm at all.

But having the wood in a open container with water may not be the best idea, as there may be insects who may lay eggs on the wood thats in the water, namely thinking of dragonflies and damselflies.

DO give the wood a good scrub and pour boiling or very hot water over the wood before putting into your tank.

Good man charlie for the info,i will pour the boiling water over it before it goes in the tank, with them soaking in ordinary tap water what about the bacteria thingy etc will it do any thing to the fishies?

I mean water straight from the tap when there been soaked should i use aquarium safe or something like that

Think you mean de-chlorinator?

This makes tap water safe to use in aquariums since it detoxifies chlorine and some metals found in tap water.

De-chlorintaor is not harmful to fish or stocking provided you add the correct dosages.

You don't need to use dechlorinator in the water you use for washing things.

Yeah thats it charlie never mind me my head is all over the place as had to get morphine injections earlier due to a chip bones in my shoulder,Thanks flutter moth just wasnt sure so needed to ask to be on the safe side :)
