Rocket Gar

for a long time my tank has had the rong type of fish in it, the only reason my tiger barbs are still alive is because there are 9 of them, so i was thinking of makeing things right and going in the direction of more aggressive fish. my thought was purchasing a rocket gar after getting rid of the tiger barbs.

first thing is will he be ok in a 75 US Gal with a pictus cat, 2 kribinsis and a Leporinus fasciatus, if not then dont bother reading the other questions (tryin to save u time )

I was wondering what i should feed him, iv done some research and a lot of people do a lot of different things(feeder guppies??), is there a best food for them or should i just try a bunch of stuff.

do they need to be i groups

anything that u think i might need to know

What dimensions does your 75 Have? Hujeta Gar's can reach ~10" but they are stiff and won't bend well, so turning could be an issue in a tank with limited depth. They also do prefer groups, but can live alone. Also, you Leporinus Fasciatus should easily obtain 12", and again, these guys are fairly stiff bodied.

That's not too bad then. Like I said, they do prefer groups, but are fine alone.

As for feeding there really isn't much need for using feeders unless they won't eat at all. Keep an eye on the Leporinus Fasciatus though, they can be semi-aggressive and he might not take too kindly to a new comer. The Hujeta will have no way of defending against the Leporinus Fasciatus either

wow i would have figured that the gar would be at least able to defend itself, but i will definitely watch for that though. the Leporinus Fasciatus is pretty well behaved, a bit of a control freak, he and the pictus cat have territory battles all the time.

they grow pretty slowly.
my old one died when it was about 6"-7"
it lived with aggresive american cichlids! and never once was it beaten on.
makes a great ditherfish.

I used to have a 8" Leporinus Fasciatus with a 15 " giant gourami, a 16" redtail catfish, a 12" bichir and a 12" ghost knife and he had to be rehomed as he took chunks out of all of them! Just food for thought, they can be little devils when they put their mind to it, lol.
