Just laid some rock into the tank and just wanted some opinions please. The rock is green and blue slate rock and blue/purple paddlestones.

As one side of the tank is on a 90 degree wall I have done it so it is more over to the right, leaving 6 inches of open space at the front and about 12 inches of open space on the left. Behind the rock there is about 2 inches of open space.

I have left the open space on the left so there is swimming room.

What do you guys think? I still have some rock left over so can fill in the space on the left if advised.

Currently about 60kg of rock in the tank. There is no egg crate so don't want to overload the 8mm glass on the bottom. If I put the rest in it will be 80kg of rock. Have calculated the tank up and running weight to over 500kg! Just hope that aps cabinet will hold it all.

Ignore all my finger prints all over the show!

If you use the one colour stone it would look far better IMO. I like the lay out. Looks well.

I like the different colors. Gives it some depth. Who is going in it?

Thanks all. Its going to be a bunch of mbunas. No idea which yet.

I like the mix of the two colours. Just been admiring it for last 15 minutes :)

Going to chuck the black sand in tomorrow and then fill it up. Will keep you updated.

Opinions much appreciated.

I do like it. I suppose that's the boring side of me coming out.

Looking forward to updates. :good:

Thanks, appreciate different opinions and everyone has different tastes. As long as you like it then thats the main thing for me.

Here's a few pics of the tank now with sand and 330l of water!

I was surpised to see how much I saved on the Caribsea Black Sand, I bought 4 bags of 9kg bags at £14 at each, only used 2 so thats a result. Will take the other 2 back and put the £28 towards the fish.

Mind the mini air bubbles that are about everywhere, hopefully they'll go once the filter is up and running in a day or wo. Just waiting for everything to settle.

I am so proud of myself! :)

Looks loads better with the sand.
it really brings the colour of the stones out :D

It's gonna look great with all the colours of the fish in there, love the sand :good:

Cheers, Sean

Two Observations-

First, if you are happy with the way the tank looks, who cares what anybody else might think?

Second, as one who does some rock, slate and wood stacking for plecos, a most important issue is making the structure stable enough so if you bump something while vacuuming, netting fish or working in the tank on other stuff, that it doesn't collapse.

Thanks all. Really pleased with the awesome feedback.

I've never done anything like this before and even though I like it myself it may not suit the Cichlids. why i needed to ask.

Rock is pretty stable and will stay standing up with a slight knock although anything heavy and a few may fall from the top. Will just need to be careful.
