So do i have the tap on the red pipe in the flow or no flow position when i want ro water?

On mine the waste water goes thru a restrictor and the restrictor is in parallel with a tap purely to bypass the restrictor when you want to flush the membrane. I turn mine on and off using the piercing saddle valve.
