Okay, so I was in Ottawa in a vacation, right? Well, in my divided 5, I put in 2 3-day feeder blocks. One on each side.

When I came home after 3 days, the breeding female (Violette) was dead, and Libra didn't look too happy. Upon testing the water, there was 4ppm of ammonia in it. I was devastated, and was crying while I attempted to scoop Libra out of his compartment with a cup. He is now in a breeding trap in my 10g with the girls, and you can't exactly feel sorry for him.... He's having the time of his little life! We have another female from the 55g in there ATM.... And this may turn into an, "RIP, Red Devil...." topic, because we can't find her either! She was really miserable anyway and then we went on vacation and now she's nowhere to be found in the entire tank....

This sucks! Whenever I think I've got something going, it all goes up in flames!! It's happened like 20 times since July now. RIP, Violette. I had just found the perfect name for you, too.... :(

I guess thats the downside to those feeder things. Isnt rotting food the cause of ammonia levels rising and nitrites etc.?

But still, really sorry to hear about your loss  Hope you can manage to recondition the others and maybe even breed them to try and make up for your loss :good:

RIP Violette

Sorry about your fish. I guess for three days it's better to just leave them with no food, less chance of an ammonia spike. I hope you find Red Devil.

Remember bettas can go up to a month or more without food and not suffer any real effects. If you're going to be going away for a couple days or a week even, its best to just let them fast for the time you're gone. I feel those feeding blocks are nothing but trouble.

I'm sorry for your loss :( RIP Beautiful Girl, you'll be missed!
