Hello peeps,

I bought some rilli shrimp of the internet about a week ago. Three days ago i noticed two of them are carrying eggs. I am delighted by this and would like to know how long until i might have baby shrimp.  The eggs are yellow now.

I want to give them the best chance so are there any things i should do to increase there chances ?  In the tank now apart from shrimp I only have a single guppy, three assasin snails and 7 pygmy corys.  I have a large ball of java moss in there for them to hide in as well.

All and any tips appreciated.

Cheers

My carbon rili shrimp recently had baby shrimps and they were born about 2 and a half to three weeks after she berried. Lots of hiding places for the baby shrimp will increase their chances of survival. I use lots of Java moss. I also use a product called bacter ae in my shrimp tank, it adds microorganisms, amino acids and enzymes into the tank. It also creates a biofilm which is essential for shrimps. The biofilm gives the babies a great start as they eat this from day 1 when they are born. It's full of proteins.

Thanks for the reply. I will research those things and go for a sniff around my lfs to see what they have.  As i mentioned i am good for java moss with a decent lump of it well established.  Are there any other plants you recommend that shrimp really like ?   also should i consider some floating plants ?

A final temp question - My heater seems to keep the temp at 27 degrees even when i have it turned to 23. Do you think this is ok or to warm ?

Any fine leaved plants they like but moss is their favourite, floating plants like dwarf water lettuce & salvinia are good too.
The temp is a little high it sounds like your thermostat isn't working properly if it's going over the set temp by more than a degree or two, I'd be inclined to change it to be safe.
