hi -

I have a 30 litre (7.5 US gallon) tank that I'm currently using for quarantine. I had one male swordtail in there (he was being attacked by an aggressive male in my main tank) and recently added three small neon tetras that I picked up from my LFS about 2 weeks ago. The swordtail is now showing characteristic white Ich spots. (I can't really see them on the tetras.) (Water stats are all good: no nitrate/nitrite/ammonia; pH is about 7.6; no carbon in filter; I usually do a 30% water change once/week.)

I've read everything I can about treating Ich, but still have a question about dosage. I did a partial water change today, along with a good vacuum, and added the recommended dose of RidIch+ for this size tank (about 5 ml). However, the bottle says to continue treatment by repeating the full dosage once every 24 hours, with daily partial (25%) water changes. My understanding is that you need to continue to treat for the full life cycle of the parasite - at least 10 - 14 days (altho the bottle doesn't make that clear).

But my question is - if I only change 25% of the water every day but add the full 5 ml dose, won't the concentration of the RidIch+ in the water keep increasing?? It seems that it would be far too concentrated by the end of the 14 day treatment period. However, the bottle does say "don't increase or decrease the amount of the dose." I'm especially concerned about the tetras b/c I've read they can be "sensitive" to the ingredients of RidIch+.

Any suggestions? I've emailed the makers of RidIch but haven't heard back yet.

Thank you!

Anyone? I need to add the next dose today and am not sure how much to add! (Still no word from the manufacturer...)

thanks.

I have never used this form of treatment for Ich so I couldn't tell you. I'm sure if you follow the instructions it will be fine :) If the Ich continues after treatment then use the more common forms of treatment as listed in the a-z of treatments in this section :)
