Can fish really be returned to local pet/fish stores? Such as Petsmart, (and Walmart if you bought your fish there). If so, how do you do this? It seems kind of like an unusual thing to do.

You can most likely bring them back, but they may not refund/give you anything for them.

You need to ask them first to see what they say.

yer they usually do if its before a certain time since you brought them

some lfs, like the one i use, generally lets me take a plant or something if i ever need to take any to him

I worked out a deal with my lf. I brought back 2 fish and got 2 litters of water conditioner. Some times you can trade in fish for another one. It all depends on the store and the owner.

ask the store what there policy is, most stores wont let you return salt water fish.

also, most stores wont give you your money back, just store credit..

i bought a fish, and it died the day i got it, took it back gave me store credit...

My lfs has a 24 hour-guarantee on fish sold. If it dies within 24 hours he needs you to take the body in as proof and a water sample. If your water's fine he replaces the fish but only once so if that dies within a day then no replacement.

As for fish that you want to take in because they're bullying, not suitable or you made a mistake, he allows a third of his retail price usually, in credit. Nothing for large plecs though as he says they don't sell. However I took one in and was there the week after when he sold it for £20!!!! Basically he'll take anyfish in though. Think most lfs will.

I used to take loads of my baby platies in and he allowed me fish food so wasn't bad. They've to be fairly big though, big enough to sell.
