I found a great deal on a 10 gallon with hood and lights so I set it up for my sweet little community betta, a place of his own for his older years  , it was impossible to get him out of the bigger tank so over the period of a few hours I finally managed, without upseting him too much. I moved a few of his favorite plants over there with him and he seems to be adjusting pretty well

But he's still a little mad at me for netting him like he's just an ordinary fish :grr:

Aw - won't he get lonely ? He's used to being in a community tank with friends he can hassle and now suddenly he's all alone. Most retirement homes that I know have lots of inmates :)

That was my concern too. I was really hesitant to move him but he just seemed so unhappy for the last month or so in the community. He was just pouting around, staring into space and seemed so bored, also his eyes were clouding up a lot. I put him in the 10 gallon a couple of days ago and he's built bubble nests all over  , he never did that before. I put a female in a bowl next to his tank last night and he's been flirting with her all day. His eyes have cleared up & he seems like his old self again, I'm so thankful that he handled it well

congrats on him getting better, that is always good to hear. try putting 3 or 4 cory's in with him so he is not alone. My betta and cory's get on just fine.

i think i would agree with tanked , he may need a quieter life but may still need some company. its nice to see someone taking so much care over a fishes welfare. :)

I considered some cories , he seems so content right now and enjoying the quiet, the other tank was just so busy all the time and it was clearly driving him bonkers, I figured it was best to move him for his own benefit and the other fish in case he snapped because he is known to be a killer. The only fish he somewhat liked was my gold nugget plec, I guess they had a kindredship in being "loners".

Right now he's really enjoying the female betta though, she's smacked up against his tank and he flirts with her through the glass and sleeps beside her at night  . I may try to let them breed, I'd love to have a tank of betta siblings someday

Yeah, I think you should let them breed. There's a lot to learn on breeding bettas though.
