I have resently desided to give up breeding guppies. to much stress.

I desided to use my fry tank witch is a 12g, I balt a beautiful Betta on monday, he is currently lifing in one of the devieded sections with the 6-7 week old fry, witch will be going to the LFS very soon, and the tank will be empty apart from the long term residents. Witch I need to know will get on with him.

There are 4 khulis (not worryed about), 2 ADF's (not worryed about), 3 Otto's (not worryed about) 1 chained loach (slightly worryed.) 6 Black-chinned livebearers (slightly worryed) and 1 skunk loach (very worryed about).

also is there anything else I could get away with putting in.

Thanks

Are you putting ALL of those fish in a 12 gallon? I think you would be way overstocked if you did.

But I guess it depends on the betta. Don't put any fish in with a male betta you would hate to lose because he might attack them or he may not even notice them. In such a small tank with all of those fish, I could definately see some territorial problems with the male betta. I would just try the male betta out with an oto or two and see how he does. I think you could get away with 2 ADFs 3 otos and a male betta in the 12 gallon.

Everything else should be re-homed if you want to keep them all.

My belief is that it's just not right to put a male betta in with anything, ever.
they have very unpredictable behaviors and anything can set them off.
Not to mention the stress it would put on both he and the other fishes.

i wouldn't do it.

All those fish are already in a 12g.

Well I can move the black-chinn's, well I think I can. depends on what happens in the other tank. I more worryed about the fish picking on the Betta.

At the moment he is behaving himself with the gup fry, he even had a good feed last night.

I don't want any major probs, thats one reason I asked before taking the deviders out the tank.

Your betta may be picked on, but bettas will hold their own - their fins may get ripped to shreds and they might get beat up, but they'll fight right back so you may end up with several fish in need of hospital care.

I'd leave them completely separated, myself.

I would go out and buy him a 5 gallon set-up for himself or even a 2.5 gallon tank that way you can take the divider out and put the betta in the separate tank. It would also give more room to the current fish in the 12 gallon. I think you're overstocked as it is, so more room is better for the current fish.

Do you have any other tanks? :dunno:

So if I took one devider out, and had the Black-chinns and the skunk on the the larger side, and left the betta, in the setion he in witch house the ADF's 1 khuli and 1 otto, well it will when the fry go to there new homes. Will he be fine with the small space, I know they don't need much room, I suypose if I take one devider out I could move his along and mack his section biger.

Just another thing, If i do deside to move the skunk, and black chinns into another tank. and slit the tank in half, could I have another betta on the other side, that will be in with 3 khulis and 2 otto's.

I running a UG filter with an up lift at both end. Would this work at all, and is there any decor I should avoyed??

I also have a 15g, witch is also being restocked, but I have senitive long term residents in there to. I worryed what the skunk loach will do to them. we have one cory that we had ever since we took fish keeping up again, he now over a year and half now, and I want NOTHIN to happen to him.

God I so confussed, I so stuck on what to do with both tanks, I just want something reastful, and stress free.

On getting the betta his own tank, I would love to know where I would put it to, BUT my other half wil no way on this earth agrea to another tank, even a very very very small one.

Okay the khuli loaches will get about 4-5 inches each and you have 4 of them right? They need a minimum of 10 gallons and are fairly peaceful so I would say they would do fine in the tank with the old cory.

Your cory is a fish that would enjoy to be in a group of atleast 3. So maybe add two more of his kind to the 15 gallon.

The chained loach is also a schooling fish and should be kept in a group of atleast 5. Maybe you should take him back to your LFS as he is probably not happy being the only kind in his tank.

The skunk loach is a very active fish and should ideally have a 25 gallon tank for swimming room. Maybe consider taking him back as well.

I am not sure of what a black chinned livebearer is as I have never heard of it. Most livebearers are fairly peaceful but don't mix well with bettas. This is what I would do if I were you...

12 gallon:
2 ADFs
4 khuli loaches
Male betta

15 gallon:
3 otos
3-5 cories

Or

12 gallon:
2 ADFS
3 otos
male betta

15 gallon:
4 khuli loaches
3 cories

And take the loaches back to the LFS or just put them in the 15 gallon and see how they do. I am not sure if the betta will do okay with the khuli loaches but I have heard they do fine with ADFs. In the end, it is your choice to do what you want with your fish.
