Hello! I was up at my grandmothers, and she has 4 large fish in her 10 gallon aquarium. Of course, they shouldn't be in such a small tank, but she didn't know! (God bless her, shes 77 and still kicking :good: ) So anyways, she's moving, and I offered to take the fish and move them into a much bigger tank, maybe then they can actually turn around and swim a bit  lol. Sooo, I've identified one of them: Banded Leoprinus Yes, a fish that grows up to 1' in length is currently living in a 10 gallon tank! Thus the reason I'm rescuing him :) I have some pictures of the other fish, if you could please help me out in identifying them. Sorry about the quality, they were taken from a camera phone. Thanks again!

This one looks like some sort of catfish or shark, it has feelers in the front which you can't quite see in the picture.

And then there's this one who is an algae eater.

Thanks so much. I think you were right on the money on both of them! It looks like the catfish gets pretty big, I can't believe it's survived in such a small tank lol.

Second one is a CAE which may become very aggressive, doesn't need a very big tank though. The second one grows to gargantuin proportions as well because i am sure i have seen pictures like that fish on google & thery are massive!

Hey thanks for the info on the CAE. Do you think it will be ok with a few other bottom feeders in a 48"x18"x21" tank? It didn't seem too agressive in the small tank it was in.

Ive got 2 of those eclipe/sun catfish (1st picture) mine are just babies, Ive asked around owners on the net and they pretty much all say there slow growing and dont seem in to much of a hurry to exede 7-8" in an aquarium.

How bigs that one?

Brillient active fish when the lights are dimmed

The Sun Catfish is probably around 4.5 inches right now. Unfortuneately, it doesn't seem to do very much, beings it's in a 10 gallon tank currently lol. He's going to be real happy in a 75 tank after that :) I'm glad to hear about them being 8". On one site I read 18"! Catfish for dinner anyone? I kid, I kid. I don't even eat fish

They def can get up to that size (18") but not unless its a massive aquarium or in the wild, talked to afew people who said theres stop growing and stayed at 5-6" for years! most reach 8" befor stopping.
Very hardy fish too. over time mine have been cooked (28oC) and still fed happily, acidently lowered the temp of my tank water to 14oC!!!!! when doing a water change with cold winter tap water (forgeting they were still in that aquarium) they floated to the surface fins locked out and mouths locked open having shock spasms. after rushing them into a small tub and slowly heating the water back up they were fine and feeding 10 hours later. I wont even go into the time one jumped out and i found it half dried up (yep, put him back in the tank, happy as larry within hours)

they hide all day then under dull lighting, feed over the bottom and even spend time swimming around midwater with tankmates
