we rescued 6 small females two days ago and have them in a 10 gallon tank with a filter, real plants, many hiding places. by that night one had died - she was covered with white cotton stuff very quickly and then died. the very next morning another showed white cotton stuff on her (pictured below after she died just a little while ago) so i decided to treat the whole tank with maroxy yesterday since more than likely all of them might have something, especially since they came together. there is no carbon in the filter and the readings are:
ammonia .5
nitrate between 0 and 20
nitrite 0
only tests i have. the second female just died. she was originally a very dark vibrant red. does anyone know what could be shown in this picture so i could immediately treat the whole tank correctly? possibly i'm right, possibly wrong, the others aren't showing any signs of illness at this point:

THANK YOU!

Can you post pics of the live ones in the tank??
If it's cottony stuff, you are correct in treating them with MarOxy.
It sounds like most of them will probably meet the same unfortunate ending, BUT... if you have any tetracycline tabs, or could get any QUICKLY you might be able to save them. They're fine to use together.

What is the history of these fish??

Also, this is a cycled tank, correct?

i think its internal parasite. if she was solid then the pale spots on here body indicates that she died of internal parasites. im not very good about whats meds to use but maybe bettamomma can help u.

there could be a number of differnat things wrong with those fish, more than likely they have more than one illness. wen i buy from walmart i treat the fish seperate for everything, ich, parsites, u name it. this is stressful on the fish but rarly do i lose any as a result of this, u wanna protect ur alredy existing stock before your new fish.

i only have a terrible digital which can't get good enough pics to see anything - tried. the pic above was taken with a scanner - really don't want to do that to the live fish... history of fish? in a tank together at a pet chain. wouldn't have taken 6 for this tank but i couldn't have left one to die there. the tank they were in was murky with no filtration - i took them because it didn't look like they'd last long. tank they are currently in is cycled but i'm sure putting them in has thrown it off a bit. it is heated high 70's. the 4 remaining girls have reasonable color, definately aren't bright but i don't see any cottony stuff on them, not spots or dots or patches, nothing shows up under a flashlight (the fish must think i'm nuts) the fins are in good condition, doesn't look like any fin rot. they are eating and actively swimming. they definately wouldn't be perfect in the conditions they were found, the woman didn't know how long they had been there.

GuppyDude - these came all together from one tank, i didn't put them in with any others, something told me there might be a problem :)

those white spots make me wonder if it's actually a parasite AND possibly fungus. GuppyDude, how would i treat for both of these? i do have tc but it doesn't say it treats both. i also have maracyn - would that be better? whatever it is its quite deadly and quick.

maybe do a water change to lower the ammonia back to 0?
definately changing some water to get the ammonia down - would like to put in the meds at the same time since odds are something may be up with them all and its so sudden waiting doesn't seem to be an option, will do it tonight, bucket is waiting :)

i've been researching too, to the point where i need some opinions :D the maroxy hasn't honestly been given a fair chance since it's only been in a day but i do wonder about parasites additionally after examining her.
