Dropped into the LFS the other day to by sum over priced cichlid flake and what do you think i saw....on the lower shelf they have a 3 foot tank with no heater and no light and no cover and it was full of pale Red Devils just sittin on the bottom withering away. When I asked why there was no heater they replyed that they diddnt want the fish as no-one would take/pay for the devils. Apon further investigation I spotted two fish with completley different body shape and grouped away from the Devils. With my limited to no knowlege of African/Malawi Cichlids I said Ide take them two "Devils" there in the corner. I got both of them for free, and walked out rather curious of what they where. When I got home I dropped them into my hospital fry tank which is currently home to 20 baby bristlenose cats, as soon as they hit the warmer water ( after letting them sit in the bag for a bit ) one of them turned electric blue, whilst the other went from pale to grey with dark bars. Quickly i jumped on the net to discover I had just scored a pair of Electric Blues ( Fryeri ) for FREE, when they retail for approx $35 here in OZ. I must say I am very pleased with my rescue, and cant wait to get a lrger tank for them. Any way here is a couple of pics, I couldnt get one of the female cos when she comes out the male chases her away, its only early days and hopfully they will settle down.

Wow those are really nice electric blues! I want to get a pair of electric yellows soon...i wish i could get them free lol

Wow, he's beautiful!!!! And I love the tank too - did you buy the background or make it? Good on you for saving them.

Silly pet store, great job you did a good deed and you made yourself possibly a nice investment there, Why not go back play dumb again be like oh yeah those fish did suck, I will take the others and umm feed them to my 20 ft shark that ive got, yeah thanks... Well anyways Amazing looking fish.

Thanks all.

SARAHBravo>>the background is ARZOO, a foam internal backing...super cheap and super effective I think, 2 x 2 foot peices cost $25 au.

Yesterday i scored a 3 foot tank for $40.00 which I will be setting up to house these 2, not too sure which direction to go with it in regards to substrate, backing and aquascape....most likley lots of rockwork and heaps of fake plants and sand substrate....will post when up and running

I'm glad you were able to rescue those beautiful fish. What a crappy lfs. That place should be demolished. Treating living beings like disposable consumer goods.
