Hey guys i hav been advised to replace my filter media and foam pads every month or so for my filter, i was just wondering if this is taking away bacteria from my tankl. It seems that it would since you are putting new stuff in ther. Can anyone explain.

ya thats not a good idea to completly remove the foam. Actually you dont have to ever replace the foam. When i do a water change i wash of the foam in the water that i just syphoned out of the tank. This way it wont kill any good bacteria, Tap water will kill the bacteria if you rinse it off with that. Also i recomend using the active carbon for only a month at a time. after that it will release the toxins back into the water. I use active carbon every other month. 1 off, 1 with. hope this helps

What sort of filter is it? Foams normally need replacing about every 12 months.
