I have a 40 gal tall aquarium with 5 neon tetras, 4 black skirt type tetras, one gourami and one gold algae eater. I have been using an Eclipse 3 system on it for about a year and a half. It seems to do a relatively good job keeping things clean, but it is super noisy. It is vibration type noise, from the filter intake vibrating the plastic hood structure. It seems like Marineland didn't put a lot of thought in making sure this thing would operate quietly.
Anyway, I'm pretty sick of it. My question for you aquarium experts is what should I replace the filter with: power or canister and suggested brands. As you can tell, I want something quite. I don't mind water noise, I just hate vibration type noise. Also what recommendations can you make for an alternative hood and lighting system.
