Hi, just been cleaning my rena xp2 cannister and followed the intruction for priming, fill tube, wait 2 minutes and turn on the power etc. Anyway I filled the tube, but when I push down the child safety lock lever the water just drains from the tube and the filter does not fill up...

Hope I can find and a solution because my fish will be left with just one filter and the bacteria is going to die!

Thanks,
Jake

if you cant get it to work then use the funnel in the inlet tube to fill the pipes and try again. should work!. mine only fills with a 2 inch gap at the top of the canister but i think this is because the outlet pipe goes down then up to feed it through a uv filter so i remove the lid and top it up with tank water, i get a bit of trapped air but it clears quickly :good:

With the valve lever up, pull the cap off the inlet T and use the funnel to fill the tube. Close the cap tight on the T. Then open the shutoff valves by pushing the lever down. The filter will prime itself and, being transparent, you can watch it fill. It will even fill the return tubing before you plug in the filter.

Thanks for your reply, I have followed these exact steps countless times this morning and cannot figure why its not filling? Must be something wrong with the way I have it set up or a faulty part but can't seem to get it primed. Is this the only way?

I assume you have the black plastic cap that screws down onto the blue plastic inlet fitting? If so, I assume you are tightening it fully, before opening the lever? If so, inspect it for cracks and/or holes. There shouldn't be any. The filter is failing to prime as this cap is leaking and allowing air into the pipe. With that cap on, the hole you fill water into should be air-tight to allow a syphon to start in the inlet pipe :good: If the cap is damages, you will need a new one. If the cap isn'nt damaged, and you are fully tightening the cap after filling the pipes, you will need a complete new inlet elbow and cap

maybe you have too much media in your basket and its not creating the vacume you need to have. Did you fill your canister before putting the top on and clamping it down?

after a closer inspection I can see a very thin crack in the inlet fittings, so i'm going to replace this part and see what happens, do you know where I can get hold of these parts? Thanks

Try a google for Rena Filstar. I am fairly sure that among the first 3 or 4 things that show up will be the official Rena site. They should have listings for different country's distributors. In the short term, if you can seal the small crack by taping it up with a good tape, it may well let you use the filter until the new part arrives. The self priming actually works best if you start with an empty filter, empty of water not media.
