Hi everyone

New to this forum and really would be great if someone with exactly the same tank as me could help me out.
I have asked several people who are selling these on Ebay and also rang about 20 shops today but as this tank is no longer sold I can't get the help I need.

Basically I have returned to this hobby after quite a few years.
I bought the Rena Aqualife Panoramic 120 Fish Tank just yesterday secondhand / private sale wit the cabinet, external filter and other bits .
It's around 3ft wide with a curved front.

Something is not correct regarding the lid. All I have is three seperate flimsy plates that sort of balance on a few millimetre ledge from front to back of tank.

There is nothing between the lights and water so I have had to buy a piece of clear perspex and stick to underside of light to try and stop bulbs from getting wet.

I have had to cut an mdf board to cover tank as if cat jumped on top again like she did this morning she would have fallen through.

Also and more important is there meant to be any braces from front to back to strenghen tank as this hasn't got any? Or has this been designed without?

What would really help me is is someone has the same and they can send me a couple of pictures so I can see what is supposed to be there.

Not worried about the trays at the top so much but for peace of mind I need to know if it should have braces or not.

Some places said that some bow fronted tanks don't have braces and other places say they think they should but can't be certain as the tank is discontinued.

The problem is I live in an upstairs flat and the thought of something happening is not good.
I did contact the person I bought it from earlier and they said they have had it for 2 years but they bought it from someone who had it just for a couple of months and said it's correct and in order.

I just have a feeling something is not right.

Any way thanks for reading and if anyone can help me out with my two queries it would be great and if anyone can send a few pics then it really would be appreciated.

Thanks again for reading and I really look forward to getting some help

mine to doesn't have anything between the light's and the water and mine's a jewel rio they are not suppose to have , but i can't say if your's is the same. My light's are fine because at the end's were the tube fit's into the unit it has a screw cap cover which has a rubber seal in it which is ment to stop water getting into the connection's.
Hope someone else can give you a better answer there will probably be someone on here with that tank, besy of luck with it all.

Many thanks for the reply.
I have searched the internet for hours tryng to find clear pics of the top of tank with no luck.
If you can find something then would be great if you could email [email protected]

More worrying is the fact there are no struts and I can't even find an email address or tel number for Rena. I believe that Rena no longer make tanks. I am aware something must be missing as there are rails in other areas of the tank the same as the rails the light unit fits into. Maybe it should have sliding glass shelves or something.

I don't want to start adding fish unless I am certain it's safe.
Someone must have one or know someone.

I have even asked people who are selling the same tank on Ebay but no reply.

Email Rena and as for a product sheet. This is the email from their site [email protected]

I have emailed Rena - the email address you gave me so hopefully will receive a reply.
There appears to be not one picture on the internet of top of tank.
I have rang around 30 shops but nobody can tell me for sure.

I don't want to get too commited until I am certain it's correct.

Thanks for your help so far and I will keep you updated with progress but I am sure somethings not right. I'm surprised nobody on here has the same tank and could help.

As an update.
I have contacted Rena, Mars Fishcare in Portugal who have advised they no longer have drawings or templates for tank parts and no longer make fish tanks.
They confirmed my suspitions that this tank should be braced either side and without braces in place the tank will eventually expolode if filled with water to top.
They have said it is safe to use without braces but only if filled two thirds full or less.
I have made enquiries regarding getting braces made but as they would be as a one off they would cost around £250.00 each due to a template having to be especially made to make the braces. The braces are curved inside the glass and there should be just a half mill gap between the tank glass and brace. I don't understand how someone could advertise this as being in excellent condition when it clearly isn't. I have contacted the seller and they simply don't want to know and are saying it is " Sold as seen" " Not our responibility"
I feel a bit annoyed aS I paid a good price for the tank and stand and it seems I have been ripped off and there doesn't seem to be an easy fix.
Looks as though I am going to have to scrap it or sell as a vivarium tank or something and start again.

Since you can't fill it to the top why not make it into a Paludarium or Riparium? Both of these types of tank can still support a small shoal of fish, and you have the added challenge of trying your hand with plants.

That's a good suggestion from Honeythorn. If you go to:
www.aquatic-gardeners.org and take a look at the aquascaping contest there's a category for Paludariums. That would give you some ideas of what its all about. Enjoy!

Please take a picture of the top of the tank, noting where the braces should be. Unless those braces are made of gold they shouldn't cost anywhere near that.

I have a 4' 72 gallon bow with a broken brace, custom steel brace was free from the shop machinist where I work, but I can't see it costing more than about $25.

Hi
Have same tank, there are 2 glass braces front to back about 225mm from each end, these are siliconed in and are 6mm glass so are substantial. They are set above the silver frame so are hardly visible. The tank has been in use for 4/5 yrs with no problems.
There is nothing between light and water but the light fittings are sealed at the connector with a rubber seal.
The covers are ally and are OK depends ho heavy your cat is,get a smaller cat.
