Heaveno!! I just got my 55gal redone. I pulled all the plants out and trimmed them. Then i pulled all my gravel and decorations out and replaced the gravel with Flourite gravel...and profile/river rock mix. The ratio is 3:1 Flourite to Profile/river rock or 75% Flourite 25% Profile/river rock. I've heard a lot about this Flourite stuff being some of the best substrate for planted tankz. I am amazed by just how awesome it looks. I almost don't wanna have plants just so i can look at it...lol. Works great at holding down the plants too. I guess since it already has high nutrients in it i don't have to fertilize quite as much...i may not even fertilize at all. We'll see i suppose. I put all my plants back in and actually aquascaped them this time so that they look reallly awesome! I'm loving in the looks of the tank already! All i have to do now is start stocking the tank more. Wahoo! The funnest part! I'll be taking some pictures of it tomorrow or Sunday...since it was still kinda cloudy tonight from the new gravel. But i will post them so be sure to give it a look and maybe even comment on it. If you know anything about Flourite i would love it if you would give me hints or comments about it. I'm very new to the stuff and i'm curious just to exactly what it is. Thankz for reading!!
I think flourite is an iron-based substrate and many rooted plants are iron guzzlers, amazon swords and crypts for instance. Also the texture makes it easier for plants to send out very fine root hairs, which makes them grow stronger
