Refractometer

I would be astonished if the box wasn't closer to the truth than your Dad :p no offense meant Dad, but we are all amazed about the amount of salt we have to put in the first time :hyper:

So, bung it in...............

Tell your dad that the mad women off TFF salty side said so :look:

oh does the refractometer measure the temp, as apparently this can vary the sg?
or is it already set at the correct temp?

It doesn't measure the temperature, but when testing your sample of water it should be at 25oC as this is what the refractometer is calibrated to, the density and refractive index change as the fluid you're testing changes temperature, which is why it is important to take readings when the solution is at the temperature that refractometer is calibrated to - normally 25oC.

Agreed!

how do i do the temp thing then?

The water your using to test the SG needs to be at 25c.

What is it at the moment?

i am confused  did i do it right first time?

that makes more sense it is at 26c

It is only 1oC out, which wont make much of a difference to the SG reading, you could turn your heater down to 25oC to get a better degree of accuracy, but that is providing that the actual water temperature is 25oC, as heaters don't tend to be too accurate.

i did turn it dow 1oC and my sg was 1.022.5 so i added more salt.
