Im in the market for a refractometer...Im not as concerned with price (at the moment) as I am with ease of use and accuracy...ive done a little research and think I know what Im looking for:

*
a portable refractometer (not a hygrometer)(with about 0-100 ppt salinity and 1.000-1.070 specific gravity
*
a unit with ATC (autimatic temp compensation) to composite for changes in the temperature of the room when testing…

· a unit where initial Calibration can be done at any room tempature.
· a unit that stays calibrated (so that you don’t have to calibrate it EVERYTIME you use it)
· a unit with its own backlight
· unit with an adjustable eyepiece, insulated body to reduce thermal influence on test
· unit with good optics. (not one with a small display or one with scale numbers that are too small.
· Get one that stores securely in its own case.

....but Id love any opinions and/or suggestions...

I can't find any Refractometers without ATC these days...

Room temp, most have ATC ranges that are much wider than usual room temps - unless of course you live on mars ;)

Backlight, really limiting yourself for such little need - don't you have lights at home?

Calibration, you want accuracy but you don't want to calibrate it every time? You don't have to calibrate it every time (if your temps and air pressure are stable) but you start to lose the accuracy you want.

Not concerned about price? Digital maybe? (Although these still need to be calibrated).

(btw air pressure should affect readings but I am not sure how much pressure at a localised altitude can affect readings).
