You know, keeping squid in a home tank is an admirable undertaking. The problem is it is simply not economically feasible. They shoal, they are speed demons, reaching speeds of 60km/h, and they eat a lot of food.

So, this being said, you would have to fork out major money to build a 50ft tank in a seperate building with mad filtration, a really strong currrent to simulate constant speed, and a lot of cash on food.

the cost of the lighting alone is staggerring

However, there was a crazy dude in the states that built a tank for live coelacanths, problem was they died shortly after capture due to the bends.

I agree, i was inspired to keep squid because of how majestic they were on the reef. And I will keep them someday

a) if i could be bothered to go through your posts it doesnt automatically suggest you are the Golden Child.....you have various ideas such as eels in fresh water, squids in a tank and 10g nanos...none of which suggest well thought out science.

Im 13, not 11. God, all i did was start this topic so i could get some info on squids. And you came tiggs and screwed it all up with your bulls**t insults, you called me stupid (BTW you dont seem like a very sharp knife yourself) even though i probably am smarter than you, and you were talking about how I torture animals.

Well, obviously you dont look at the facts before you post, a ) many eels are freshwater and many morays start out in there, b ) cephalopods do very well in captivity, and c ) many people have 10g nanos, it is a common size, stealhealr has one(correct me if im wrong) also, i have read about nanos as small as 1/2g.


So unless your posts are relevant, you should shut up and leave the posting to qualified individuals.

I suggest that both of you just stop insulting eachother or else this will never end....its quite annoying. I understand that this topic was started to talk about squid and such, but its just a ridiculous topic now....tiring to read. And please for everyone elses sake, In the future, if you two are in the same topic room again..please don't take shots at eachother about how dumb eachother again and ruin that post and get it closed too. Just stick to addvice or questions. Its more interesting to read...I hate bitching so please no more I know Lynden is intelligent and Tiggs probably is too. But its not seeming like it at the moment. so Done!

Sigh, I know you hate bitching riley, and i know i do it all the time, and i know im not easy going. I think that a simple discussion is fine, and i try to make my points in a calm and respectable manner. It was not until Tiggs said "oh yeah you must be trying to raise the average iq in your house" that I began to lose my patience, it usually takes awhile for me to do that. Unless, of course, the person has upset me in the past.
I just wanted to shut Tiggs up before he began to attempt and flame me.... I guess ill have to change my methods.

I stand by my statement of "unless your posts are relevant, you should shut up and leave the posting to qualified individuals". Tiggs, if you have good, friendly, relevant information, I would be happy to receive and use it, and im sure the rest on this forum would be too. For instance, someone asks, "can i put an anemone in brackish?" you could say, "no, anemones are pure saltwater" instead of something like "no you cant! are you stupid or something?". You see? Which one would you rather receive?(if you were a newbie of course) I agree with Riley about it being done. But if anyone has good advice i would be happy to get it.

I would agree with this Chesnut, just make sure that you are behaving the same way, don't get worked up or react to people. This thread has spiralled way off course. I suggest any further posts are on topic, and aren't childish arguing.

Oh boy did i miss this thread!

The initial question was a good one. Many people love these animals but the immediate responce was accurate. These crature are just not viable in a home tank without lots of cash and specialist knowledge. I have seen that the National marine aquarium has kept them successfully and bred them too i believe.

However the fact that the answwere was not one that was welcomed doesnt alow the aggressiveness in a return post. nor should it allow the rest of this thread to degenerate into all out war.

Therefore after reading the thread and seeing that its purpose has been served by answering almost completely the initial question... Therefore the thread is now closed.
