Hi all, has anyone seen, heard or read about the Reef Max - plug & play

well, i read about it the PFK mag it claims that it has everything you need to start your new reef tank all you do is 'plug and play' hence the name :)
if you would like to have your say on this tank feel free & also if there is a better starter kit, say what it is and why ;)
thanks

a very good tank but not cheap. the good thing about this kit is the lighting. but if you just whant to keep softies then i would buy the orca tl 550 much cheaper but the red sea max is a fab tank. :hyper:

I'm not a fan of the RSM, don't like the look or the price but many people do like them. Stefday has one I believe.

I would agree with Harry, if you want a plug and play then I would go for the D&D or the Orca 550 (which I did, I had the orca 550 :p)

Way too expensive IMO. Nothing in this hobby is actually plug in and play imo. Majority of people swap a pump add more lighting. I prefer buying individual equipment, setting it up helps you understand the workings and helps you maintain and fix it.

yer too expensive IMO as ben said i have discovered i would like to buy the equipment my self, which is not hard at all really. My experience of this is having the tl550 (orca) and changing, lights, added three pumps, changed skimmer, changed media so the only thing that is actually orca is the glass and stand! (and im working on changing that!)

Which RSM are you looking at the 130 or 250?

I initially had a Bayu 550 130 litre tank that would have been excellent if I had had the right information from the LFS and kept it simple with only a few fish etc. Unfortunately I listened to bad advice and the system crashed. Very upsetting experience.

I currently have the RSM 250 and whilst not cheap I would say that the build quality is very good and it has been (touch wood) so far much easier to keep than I thought it would be. The only thing I have added is a pump at the back of some live rock to aid flow. I do not know about the 130 though.

I think it very much depends on what you want to do with the tank and what your current level of experience and knowledge is.I am very new to the hobby but the only advice I would give is to go slowly and not rush anything.Use the forum to check advice - the problem when starting out is that you do not know what is the right advice but the forum gives you the opportunity to receive lots of information. I wish I knew about it from the beginning.

Hope this helps.
