Help! I've got 2 rope fishes in my 90 litre tank, water levels seem to be fine but suddenly one of my ropes have got an red pimple on her head near her fins. I'm really worried if something's attacked her because after I cleaned the tank my 2 ropes became aggressive with each other. Before they were the best of buds but now I almost never see them together again! Is there a way to solve this?? I don't want to loose my rope to a pimple. I feed them freeze dried tubiflex worms and they were fine with that, my rope with the pimple is fine and I just noticed it at around 4:00PM so please help ASAP!

What other fish are in the tank? You really should upgrade your rope fish to at least a 208 liter tank, rope fish actually are somewhat social fish so I don't think their having problems with each other, it may be the bump on the others head, although I have no experince with anything like this sorry :/

Difficult to suggest anything without a photo.

General care-wise, Ropefish should be in an escape-proof 5x2x2 as a minimum, they are not small fish. They also tend to do better in groups.

How long have you had the ropes?
What other fish are with them?

They are 4 gourami's and 2 discus I've had them for about 5 months now and they have been fine but I see them nipping each other's tail and body so I don't know if that's playful of not but they always seem to react like they've been hurt after the nip. They were fine in their 2 so I just left them like that. The ropes are in a tightly shut lid which is escape proof and they have plenty of hiding spaces. They've never tried to escape before so I take that as a sign of happiness. I tried to get a photo but they keep swimming away or hiding so sorry about that.

Does the pimple have a white edging, or a white in the centre of the spot?
Is the spot smooth and not resemble a cauliflower in appearance?
Any lumps beneath the skin in the area of the pimple?
Is the pimple filled with fluid, Or feel hard to the touch?

I haven't touched it because I'm afraid I might infect it or scare my rope fish but it's just plain and about the size of her eye but a bit bigger. It's smooth looking and no cauliflower appearance.

Can you isolate the fish and use a bacterial medication?

The pimple now is white instead of red and i managed to feel it and it was slimy like the rest of her body. She still is acting normally and eating normally. The size had also decreased. I put some bacterial medication and now I think she's alright. Thanks for the help!

I would take the bacterial route. Can you isolate the fish for treatment?
