Is there something I can add to aquarium water to reduce the hardness? I have seen the API pillow thing but is there something in the form of a solution that does the job?
your best bet for the long term is to invest in a RO unit and make your own RO water. Remember it needs to be remineralised afterwards. For freshwater fish a lot of people cut their RO water back with normal tap water.
Mardel makes Tank Soft . I'm using it now and as far as I can tell it works. Its a once and done treatment thats needed. I've used it, it works so far, and its cheap...
Thanks for all the options! I looked into RO last night but I don't really want another piece of kit. I intend to get some peat granules to place into the filter canniester as well. There is already bogwood in the tank but I don't think they are having a significant effect.
FISHKERS - Can you let me know where I can buy some TankSoft? Preferable online.
I prefer buying it from That Pet Place heres the link for Tank Soft. I'm not sure where you live but this store is located in Lancaster, PA and is worth the trip everything there is really cheap. I make several trips a year there just to pick up supplies.
Also here is the link for Greg Robert Pet supplies Tank Soft I've bought some things from them before they are very good as well.
These are the only two stores online that I can find. This stuff is hard to track down! I hope that this helps out.
Your very welcome, sorry I couldn't give you any immediate stores in your area... If those American stores don't work I would suggest searching online or even contact Mardel who makes it, they can probably tell you a supplier nearby. If you need anymore help let me know, i'm sure I can track it down for you.
