Quick question Reducing the filter out put pipe and input pipe from 16/22mm to 12/16mm only thing i can think of is this will increase the water pressure within the pipe?

filter will be around 1000LPH and its for a 88L tank but the filter i want to get is 16/22mm pipe in my eyes that is OTT for the size of tank

please get back to me even if you think its a bad idea?

what you mean you cant over filter?

its going to be a planted tank so i need 10x flow so a 1000Lph filter is perfect, but will the redused flow size damage the filteR? reduce the flow? increase the flow? or other as i am no expert

If the filter you have is right for your tank why do you want to alter the pipe work designed for it?
If you reduce the pipe size then it will reduce the flow and lower the turn over, so then your tank will be under filtered.

okay cool i thought that although the pipe is changing the flow would be the same but the pressure would increase as the pump will still pump water at 1000lph just the pressure of the water within the pipe will increase but it wont hurt keeping it at the larger size just means larger kit inside the tank and stuff

another thing is you increase the diameter the water pressure will lower in that case will lower the lph, so wouldn't the lower diameter higher pressure even increase lph? I am not good with science so maybe completly wrong haha :p but that was my theory behind it

I have reduced my pipes by using rigid pipe, this has reduced the flow slightly but I am over filtered so not worried, just didn't like the thought of that flexi pipe down the back of the tank. Mine are all solvent welded and rigid.

aaw okay i did the same with my 330L used PVC central heating pipe, not the best looking stuff but it dose the job

but ye i trying to make things smaller in the long run like the inflow and outflow pipes co2 diffuser all cost less for the 12/16mm pipe yet i dont ever see a filter that uses that piping any more :( but ye il probably just use the original pipeing just wanted peoples views on what it did on the flow front
