Hi there ,
Im new im picking my self up a baby south american redtailed catfish this weekend .
He/she will be around 3"-4" long from the A5 aquatics fish store on saterday i should think mabey sunday , but he will be housed in a 4ft tank till he is around 10" long the in a 5ft by 4ft by 2ft (4ft wide.) for around 3 years then if he gets over 40" a bigger tank will be need for him. the 5ft tank will be here by the end of june , so hopfuly he will have a good home he will be in a tank with 1 common plec 1 giant gourami and 1 tiger shovle nose catfish thats 4 fish and i might not get the giant gourami or GG (short for giant gourami) as when bigger the smallest fish will be 20" long , what are your views on this ?

meany thanks for reading my thread.

i have one mate not keeping him though soon as he is too big he will be going on a journey to the reef aquaruim

Had one several years back..Bought at about the same size as yours and managed to outgrow a 6x2x2 in just over 8 months!!!!!!! These little guys grow rapidly,lol...Would also be wary about housing him with your shovelnose as territory could be an issue here.

Also my fillteration is going to be 1 - Fx5 fillter 1- 305 fulval fillter and a large inturnal fillter aswell as a large powerhead and 4 300w heaters. dose this sound ok ?
cheers.

Ive had them before but only when babys , but ive only had a problem with the rtcxtsn hybrid as he was agressive ive had redtails (RTC) with tiger shovlenoses (TSN) before worked out fine .
but the only one way to find out isent there , so ill try it i should think it should work as theres only going to be 2 large fish as i dont think ill get the GG but the plec wont move very much any way, ill give him some bogwood should be fine or a large rock.

This is my first post on here so hi all

I have a 2ft south american Red tail in my 350 gallon tank, its in there with a just over 2ft perruno cat, get on fine + always together

Ive hand fed them a few times too which felt a bit strange to start with, great fish though
