Redid My Stocking - Opinions?

Ah, haha.

Make it just a mental note then? :p

Actually Shykitty, no

it is often recommend to keep gourami's in trios of a male with two females.

Just because they are both labyrinth fish does not mean they have the same levels of aggression.

That is like lumping Cichlids under one level of aggression simply because they are all Cichlids - - there are many varying levels of aggression between species.

Bettas and gouramis will fight; or more the betta will fight the gourami. Every person, website, and lps I have spoken to, other then you, have told me so.

And yes, 1 male for every 2 or 3 females. :p
But will end up with babies. And I don't think glitch wanted to deal with that. :/

Yea...my tank is already quite stocked. Still kinda nervous about my kribs. >.<
would there be aggression if I manage to get 2 females? Or just have a single specimen?

A few posts ago, the OP asked about gourami compatibility with OTHER gourami - asked if they could be kept in trios or pairs. Thats when Shykitty responded that like bettas, gouramis are aggressive.

I was not saying that bettas and gouramis should be housed together, but rather gouramis are not aggressive towards each other like bettas would be.

You can't put a honey gourami and a dwarf gourami, etc. together either.
And unless your tank is big enough, can't have two males of the same type together.
They will fight constantly..

Originally, I was going to get 2 male honey gouramis. When I did more research, to make sure they would be okay, and posted the question on the forum, all replies and sites I read pointed towards NO.
HOWEVER, at my lps they keep all the male honeys together, and there isn't conflict at all. And they have 10 or more crammed into a 20G..

ok....Sorry Shykitty

I will simplify what I was trying to say

gouramis, a male can be housed with a pair or more of females OF THE SAME TYPE OF GOURAMI

bettas and gouramis should not be mixed but that was not the OPs intent anyways, that came up when the OP asked if the gouramis should be housed in singles, pairs, or trios and you replied that gouramis are hostile like bettas because they are both labyrinth fish

now, we have gotten off track of the OPs questions, lets get back on track to help them

Angels are a foot tall.. Altums are 15+ inches tall..

Sorry but that is just not true - I have bred a number of Angelfish of various strains (wild black stripe, koi and platinum) for a number of years and none ever attained that height and besides my experience it is just not the case for their height - they usually grow as tall as they are long. My largest male (wild caught) got to about 8 inches long 8 inches tall.

Altums can atain 15 inches but it depends on the strain some have been found closer to 20 inches in the wild! But these are regional differences - though the P.Scalare in the hobby (common angelfish) are often from the same location or farmed so their sizes can are easier to predict.

To the OP if you take the Angel out - I would stick to the smaller species of Gourami like the Honey and do a trio of 1 male 2 female.

See, if you read up. You just rewrote what I had written on page one. :p

And I didn't say anything about bettas and gouramis being both labyrinth fish, just said they will fight because they are in the same family. (Some gouramis even have "betta" in there scientific name.)

Anyhow. Glitch asked about kribs and aggression in female pairs of gouramis I think?

I don't know anything about kribs. haha
Female gourami groups are iffy. You normally keep 2 or 3 together for a male. But I've read in a few places that they will have small tiffs over hiding spots, etc..

I've already done my research on the kribs before i got them. I'm just worried they'll spawn as I've got a pair >.<
Again, thankyou Willis. Always here for the save. You've helped me numerous times since I've joined this forum. :good:

Now I'm debating whether to rehome my angel for the gourami's now...If I were to rehome my angel I would want something similar in size as a centerpiece fish. Anything you know of that would be suitable for my tank?

Idk if a fts would help, but here it is anyways. It's not updated...but not much has changed other than a few bunches of cabomba at the left and a bit of change in stocking. Thanks!

Okay then, maybe in an aquarium that's not the right size, they don't grow to full potential.
Since their fins will only grow for what they have room for.

And recently at a lps, a really beautiful silver angel that was over 9in tall and 5in long. It was in a wall tank though. They said it wasn't fully grown yet.

I've seen altums over 18inch before myself. :)
I still think, even at 9in, an angel should have at least 3x its height to swim in. But again, that's just me.

Honey gouramis are really pretty, but one full grown is about 25% of my stocking for my 30G, they need a large territory.
I know they can be perfectly happy with other peaceful community fish too if you leave it as a single.

How old is your angel? I you have had it over 2 years it's already full grown to your tank and you could keep it.

If you got a pair there is ALWAYS a chance they will spawn. Alot of fish need certain conditions to spawn though.

I've had my angel for about 3 months, so I would say he's about 5 months old.
He's grown from being 2" to a bit over 4.5" in length now in the 3 months he's been with me.
If my tank is unsuitable for an angel, I don't mind rehoming him. I just need suggestions on a nice centerpiece fish.
Something that can live by itself and grow to 5-6" would be nice.

I realise that my kribs have a high chance of spawning. I'm just hoping the majority of fry will become fish food (I'm a terrible person :X)
My tank can't hold many more fish, and the only spare tank I have is my hospital. I really don't have room for fry.

How well would rainbow fish go in my tank? Do they shoal? Or can I keep them as a single specimen?

scratch that, a quick google search answered my question :p

You could probably put an opaline gourami in your tank..

And that's the circle of life. Alot of fish will eat their own babies if they know they won't have enough room.
