red torpedo barbs

everyone seems very undecided about how many torpedos to have in a tank.. i want them to be happy, and swimming around in the main area of the tank, and not hiding behind the bog wood or rocks!
how many do you suggest!!???
where do you live by the way?
:D

Trimar is a realy great and informative site. Wish shipping fish from U.K. to the west was easy :X

I could only check it out for so long b/c the colors on the website are really harsh on my retinas...sheeesh, im going blind from it.

i suggest a group of 7 ish.mine have been the most placid fish i have ever owned!!!but my experience is of a group of 7.any less and i'm not sure how they would be with each other,or,tankmates.i live in st austell and go to trimar on a regular basis.feel free to pop in as you go past trimar.

i can't wait to visit trimar.. thing is you have to be VERY restrained.. i always end up buying new fish!
but can't really bring back up to plymouth in a bag.. bit too far for the little guys, so maybe i will be able to be restrained!! :D

trimar will add extra oxygen/put in a larger bag/more water.i bought 6 odessa barbs and 2 parkinson rainbows yesterday at 1.30pm and did,nt get home till 5pm.trimar do this when they send fish all over the place,so should be no probs.go on,spend, you know you want to lol.

well we didn't quite get to trimar, just got to a really nice shop in carkeel. we actually bought some torpedo fish there, they are still quite young, and there was a deal on, so we did it. i love them.. been waiting to come home all afternoon just so i could watch the fish again (we brought the fish home before going out again)! they swim nicely together, no aggression, or shyness, even seem to be buddying up with the tetras and the silver sharks! so cute!!!
thanks for the nudge of encouragement!!
i think i may have a new favourite fish!

:/ I had a group of 6 desonii barbs for about a year.....was so happy with them....they ate well, they grew well.....then all of a sudden...one died and then another. The rest of the fish in the tank were fine.Water was ,as usual. Gradually all my torpedos died until I was left with one.He lived on his own for about a year and then joined his friends in fishie heaven. No apparent cause for their demise and I lost no other fish during this time. When I bought them they cost £18 per fish.
I still love torpedoes to this day....but I can't justify buying any more because I don't know why my previous fish went to meet their maker.

aw, shame! that's so sad. i hope these guys are ok, they seem so happy in the tank at the mo, eating LOADS!! it's so sad when fish die. did you take the fish back to the shop so they could do any tests on them? i guess as they are such new fish to the hobby there isn't much known about them, and therefore we don't know much about the diseases they are susceptible to.

heya..
sorry took so long to get back, visited trimar and was really impressed! they have a fab collection of plecs!

we did get our torpedo barbs, from a shop in carkeel, near saltash, thier shop was also fantastic, amazing collection of both fresh and saltwater fish, fairly decent prices. the shop was really clean, and extremely busy.. had to wait like 20 minutes before we could get our fish!! definetly recommend this shop to anyone!but we bought our torpedos from there, 5 of them, as it was £35 for 5.. pretty good deal we thought.

we love them, they are fantastic fish, still only about an inch and half long, but they will grow, they are always around, swimming above the rock formation, very pretty and very active! really glad we bought them, and we havne't had any problems with them at all!

we are getting our new tank on the weekend, and as soon as we move house we'll be putting them in it it's a rena classic 200... 6ft x 2ft x 2ft!! hope they like thier new home!! :D

got it from ebay..! couldn't resist the bargain.. saw it in a garden centre on special offer for £999, down from £1500, and we then saw it on ebay for less, and bid, won it for £350.. just need to go collect it.. it comes with all the kit, an xp3 filter, a fluval 404, 2 heaters and that sorta stuff! only a year old!! definelty lucky us!
will be posting pics once we are all set up, have yet to find a new house though!

sounds very nice  if only i had some more room then i could get a beast lol.

well we are lucky, we have wanted to move to a house for a long time now.. i want a garden to get a dog (miss my dog soo much) and james wants somewhere to put his car.. so we figured why not go all out and buy the biggest tank we could find, and when we are looking for somewhere we can look for somewhere that can accomodate the tank also!
i CAN'T WAIT!! :D
