:good: i have been wanting a red tailed black shark for a while sp i thought it would be a good idea to start researching. I have found that they are aggressive and territorial but go well with big tetra and rainbow fish.

So... would it be ok on it's own in a 130l tank with
2 oto's
5 glowlight tetra,
5 neons
2 rainbows
2 platies
3 cory's

thanks for any help you can give me. :good:

A rtbs should be fine with most everything provided you have enouhg structure (plants, rocks, wood, decorations).
I only warn about the platies, have a similar shape......My rtbs never bothered my sowrdtails, but My freinds rtbs wouldn't allow any sowrdtails in his tank.............Get the rtbs as young as you can find and he'll more likely leave your platies in peace.

from what i understand the rtbs isnt too good with corys since their both bottom dwellers and their shaped similar. Im pretty sure ive had this, if anyone wants to support or correct my statement please do.

And require large tanks: these are big fish that arent suited to 130L, the grow far to big and are far to aggressive, I suggest you look at something else. They might be ok in the short term but will grow big enough and be seriously active.

Have a look at their profile: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_bicolor.php They grow to a half foot long, for which a 130L is far too small wrt to swimming space. Not only that your tetras are small and thus can become a snack or a target for aggression: just read some of the reviews on that sight for an idea.

I would seriously advise against it, I hope this changes your mind and you consider other fish.

red tailed black sharks aren't exactly classed as bottom dwellers because they don't just stay on the bottom like, say, corys do. if they can, they're gonna roam around the tank "cleaning" which is what they do best... other than chase other fish around lol

personally, i wouldn't add a red tailed black shark in the tank because of the stocking you have. if something doesn't quite work out or you get a mean shark, your current fish don't really stand a chance against the speed of a rtbs. why not try a ruby shark first?

Hi, I have just had to give away my rtbs to my friend, I loved my shark and it was favorite fish in my 215 liter community aquarium but after having him for 6 months he just got worse at chasing the fish and in the end was chasing everything non stop, I had lots of plants and hiding places in my tank and he had his own little cave to hang out in but he got very territorial, he is now in a large 6 foot tank and is loving it, he has not chased anything or shown any aggression since being in this tank, my advice would be to look for some more peaceful catfish for your community tank.
Peacelover. (especially in my tank, lol )

Okay thanks then guys, i was maby thinking it would not be suitable and the last thing i want is for my fish to be unhappy so i will not get one thanks again for all your helpful replies
