Hi all, need some help on My red tail shark, I am having nitrate problems at the moment and have lost both of my clown loaches that i have had for a few years, this shark came with the tank and is about 4 inches long, he has been flicking due to the water problems like the clown loaches, his scales do not seem to be getting damaged as quick as the loaches (as they have no scales), apart from the flicking he seems fine, should i be concerned that he will not survive or as the water is comming back to normal that he will be ok as they are hardy fish unlike the loaches

Also another queston, the PH is on the rise as i am doing water changes every day, it is normaly 7 but is up to 8 now, how can i combat this bearing in mind i have changing 30% water daily

If the tank is new how long did you run it before introducing livestock??? Also what filtration are you running???

First impressions are that you have introduced fish too soon and have not cycled your tank prior to introducing livestock.

sorry, the tank has been up and running for about 2 years, bought the tank of ebay and it came with some fish (one of which was the shark) the nitrate problem has been a build up over time as i did not know to check for it as i am stupid, i now know what to check for and the level is comming down slowly, all other tests (apart from the slight rise in PH are fine)

I have under ground filter which does the job very well,
