i recently have gotten a 20 gallon tank that has a red tail shark already in it he is probably about 2-3 inchs long and has been alone in the tank for about 2 years, i then put in a jeweled cichlid who is about 1 inch long just yesterday and they seem odd.. they sometimes will nip at each other and sometimes just swim by, ive also notice a chunk missing out of the red tail sharks fin, i was wondering if this is normal and they are feeling each other out or if i should separate them?? also will the fin grow back??

If the rts has been on his own he is probably just sizing up the Jewel because he is bigger, the fin will grow back, you may have trouble with just the two fish as the shark will keep chasing him. I have a rtbs in with 2 serverums, blue acara, firemouth and ellioti the shark does occasionally chase them but he is about 5"

except i don't know if it makes a difference, but the Cichild seems 2 be the more aggressive fish

The cichlid will be wanting his own bit of tank, mine all have their favorite spots and the squabble when someone else enters their "patch" keep an eye on them they may settle down. Have you got plenty of hiding spaces for them? and how big is your tank?

there's tons of hiding spots, and its a 20 gallon

i was also wondering if i could keep some blue gouramis in the 20 gallon with the rts and the jc??

...they are about 1-2 inch long and how many would i need to add??

the jewel is an aggressive cichlid so he might take over the tank but i dont know 2 much about them, but i am planning on getting some :)
