2 tiger barbs have red sore looking marks on their body really quite red.done a water test all fine just about to check that theres nothhing sharp in there from the potted plants. what is it. are they going ot be ok. the sore ones are swimming strange to sometimes inverted almost like its displaying itself. thats when i noticed the red

looking worse today. when the tiger barbs does its strang swim ie vertically theres 6 platy in there that nibble on the wound. is it likely to get better or will i need to quarantine the innjured one.

really need help with this now , dont want to lose them! !

How many fish of each type do you have in the tank.
Can you post your water stats please.

Does the red sores have a circling of dead white tissue around the edges.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, or excess mucas.

no just red sores on body, it might be where they been nipping each other but these sores have come on very quickly and look fierce.
water ph 8
ammonia 0
nitraite0
nitrate20

there are 7 neons
2cherry barbs
3 glowlight tetras
6platy
2 rosy barbs
2red eye tetra

i recently added the 6 plty and 2 new plants as there wasnt enogh plants in there
could it be the plants
going to do a scheduled water change today

Live plants can fetch things into the tank. Did you sterilise the plants.

If there no signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming. I would take the bacterial route.

Esha 2000, or anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Do you think the sores could of been caused by nipping.

If the fish carry on nipping you will have to rehome them.

no didnt sterilise the plants. just odd that its only the tiger barbs and only2 not three that got the red
just wonder if they been fighting.
will they heal without meds.
if its down to fighting[

I think I would still add a bacterial med to the tank.

Keep an eye on nipping, and parasite signs.

yeah ok i just done the water change and so can see them more clearly now. there body looks quite red and around the red and in the middle its very discoloured like its eating away at them is that the med i should go for.
i use a fluval u2 internal filter should i be taking my filter media out so as to not kill my good bacteria with that stuff.
shame i cant get to an open shop now!
they seem to be displaying themselves all the time swimming vertically ,
no fighting
platy keep nibbling at them 2 when they are still

is it too late

The only time you need to remove filter sponges is when using antibiotics.

Whats your location.

[hiya i bought the stuff you said to buy and its gone in , it said to remove the filter media so i put in some tank water, hopefully its not 2 late. the only thing should i put the sick 2 tiger barbsin the birthing cage thats empty to stop the platy nibbling em or just laeve it now.
not nibbling all the time just now and then , thanks.

hi there wilder any more thoughts on this.
will give you an update 2mz says to remedicate in 4 days but hopefully wont have too or is it best to do the 2 doses then put filter back.
what bout seperating them or leave alon? thanks

Is the med esha 2000, or anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

There no need to remove filter, or filter sponges for these meds.
They can only knock water stats slightly.

it depends on the strain of bacteria. Most lfs meds don't treat severe bacterial infections.

yeah its the t=interpet one anti internal bacteria
going now to check if they got better or worse since yesterday just got in form work. let you know. thanks
