I not sure if this should be here or in the hardware section but it seems like the makers of red sea prizm have now decided the prizm is good for 40 gallons and not 100. I was in pets at home earlier and they were selling both the 40 and the 100g, when i asked why have they changed the rating i was told that they had the following email:

In keeping with the most modern research into protein skimming, Red Sea has recently led the way in defining the capabilities of its skimmers.

All of our skimmers are not rated according to the water/air throughput and the water flow through the skimmer in relation to the volume of the aquarium.

Our testing has shown that the following ratios should be adhered to:
Fish Only tank: Volume of aquarium should pass through the skimmer once per hour
Soft Corals: Volume of aquarium should pass through the skimmer 1.5-2 times per hour
Hard (stony) corals: Volume of aquarium should pass through the skimmer 3 times per hour
This rating was introduced with the Berlin X2’s and for the new C-Skim. We also implemented it into the Prizms, and re-packaged them as a result.

The specification and performance of the Prizm remains unchanged, but the rating more fairly reflects our recent lab tests. Unfortunately most skimmer manufacturers still rate their skimmers according to the theoretical throughput of the supply pump, which is largely not realistic.

We understood when we did this that we would be down-rating our skimmers. For example, the new Berlin X2’s are 50% more efficient that the original Berlin yet we recommend them for smaller aquariums.
