I went to my lfs to check out there new stock, and I saw this absolutely beautiful fish called the red scat. It was flat, a redish purple color and when scared spikes rose from the top of his back that were poisoness (Can give humans a fever). Anyone have any info on the red scat?

They are a brackish fish which need increasing ammounts of salt added to the tank until eventually they must go into a full marine set up. The bulk of their diet is made up of algea and green food like lettuce cucumber and courgette although they will eat live and frozen foods too. They grow to around 12" and are a shoaling species so must be kept in a group so a very large tank is needed.

i have two red scats in a brackish tank. they are great pets. very friendly... coming to see me whenever I enter the room. they are my favorite fish. Mine prefer brine shrimp, they will take it frozen. they also eat worms and sometimes dry food. they get along with everyone in the community brackish tank that I have. good luck Wolfefish
