Hello there,
I have just set up a brackish tank, with 2 lovely red leopard puffers, i am really pleased with this setup!

the only question i have, is what other fish would people recomend putting with these 2 beauties? i hear they are quite vicious, so i wanted to check here before putting some poor fish to their death.
These are currently about 3" i understand they get to about 4-6" would i be correct in beliving this?

How about 1 or 2 green spot puffers? or kromites (sorry if the name is wrong :S )

any help would be very much appreciated!

:good:

Red leopard puffers are typically tetraodon palembangensis, and these are freshwater puffers. Check my pinned topic in the oddball forum for more info on them.

Do not add salt for these fish. They are mean loners and don't do well with others, so typically tankmates are not an option.

Common names often lead to mis identification.
I know of shops advertising the T.abei as the Red Leopard Puffer.
Either of the species mentioned though are both completly fresh water and do not require any salt. Not suitable for a BW set up.

You need to get some photos up so you can get a true ID of the Puffer. Most puffer wont tolerate anything in the tank with them.

I had one, they are nasty things and dont do much!!! they are freshwater also!

I recently bought a red leopard puffer and was told that the scientific name for it was a T. Barbatus. But i dont think that is correct. I have two pictures of it and was wondering if you could help me identify. he isnt aggressive as i had him in the tank with a few other fish for two weeks. however i moved his tank mates out and now he is alone. would like to pair him with a GSP i have who is also very shy and not aggresive. but i want to be sure of his species.
