red gravid spot?

Hello

I have two female guppies and they have very red gravid spots? I'm not sure if that's what its called, but there's this red spot near it tail... Pretty orange yesterday, and today its like reddish brown, a much darker colour. Is this an indication that they are going to give birth soon?

Must i lower or increase the temperatures of the water to ensure that it gives birth quicker? Please let me know! Thanks!

My guppy's gravid spot changed in color when the lights went off from a dark brown/black to a light orange color,and when the lights went on again it turned black and she had over 20. She wasnt that big either.

I raised the temp in her tank from 78 degrees to 80 because she was a week overdue,and she had them like a day later. I have read before that raising the temp a few degrees promotes dropping fry,but also keeping the tank a couple degrees higher helps quicken the process. Do the temp change gradual,and dont be decieved by the changing color gravid spot.

You might want to feed them some extra treats,like frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimps. Guppy expectant mothers need extra TLC and a few days recovery after dropping fry.

Oh but how do i increase the temperature? Can i put them in my front yard? Where the sun can increase the temperature naturally or would that be a bad idea? Please let me know! Thank you! Cos i'm pretty worried as it has been overdued for quite some time already..

You need to have a heater in your tank to increase the temp. If you don't have one already I'd go get one. They are pretty inexpensive. My guppies gravid spot started out reddish orange and gradually turned to black as the babies developed. The black is the eyes of the fry. I think it is hard to figure out exactly when the are going to give birth. I wouldn't worry they seem to naturally know what to do. You might want to try posting in the Livebearers forum to better opinions.
