Red Double Tail Plakat - Spawn Log

Theres now about 15 dt fry left. Its been hard with these guys. there growing slower that the blue hm spawn in the tank for some reason. and the smallest didnt make it. there tails are staring to show good spliting but so far no color,

i wish i could get a pic there so cute, but my camera just wont focus on the fry that small. maybe ill try agin tomorow with better lighting.

there about this ---- big, and the other spawn about 15 are about this ------ big. I didnt expect this or i wouldnt have mixed the 2 spawns.

FInnaly big enough to get a decent pic. theres maybe 10 left.
the biggest being almost 3/4 of an inch.

not a very big spwan which is kinda dissapointing. ill probably rebread the pair once i get the male reconditioned. i dont want to try it too soon, i think that was the problem last time.

-giggles- rebread sounds like you're trying to cook them or something. Anyways, cute little guys and GL with your spawn :D

lol thats prety funny,

....
3.pull out of fryer and rebread you fish.
4.fry for 10-15 minutes untill golden brown
....

lol -forgive the stupidity

 I can't wait to see what they look like once they are older and develop their color. Are the remaining ones all DT?

Ehehe, Bucky, yo~

How do you you know when a female and a male are compatible? I know the female will get vertical stripes, but are there any behavioral characteristics? When I first attempted to spawn, I put the male in a 55 gallon tank with water filled 5 inches, and the female in a jar beside him. He just started flaring and she right back. After about a day, I released them, and all they did was swim around the tank for a whole day, hiding and chasing. I can't tell when she gets vertical stripes because she's dark, but I can tell when she gets horizontal, and she develops horizontal stripes when she's being chased. :( I didn't want them to get hurt, and I decided to wait until the weather is warmer, so I separated them and I am waiting until the summer when I don't need a heater. (It gets like up to 120 degrees farenheit in the summer here  )

How did you introduce them, and for how long until you put them both together? Sankyuu~

Oh, and teh fish are absolutely adorable. It's amazing. Good luck!~

Sorry i havent responded, been in the Hospital having a Baby Of my own.
pics are in my photo album.

I use a more daring aproach to breeding than most people. It is alot simpler.

First of all make sur eyour bettas are the right age and fully conditioned! This is the most improtant part of breeding for me.

Conditioning requires at least 2 weeks of feeding live food. I use 1 gallon and change the water everyother day when conditioning. And i know the male is ready when he makes a buble nest within a few hours after a water change, this is important!

THen use a smaller tank,10 gal with 4 gallons of water, with a few live plants. then i add both bettas at the same time. I dont use a jar for the female i release her witht the male. I look for vertical bads and they should do a dance when they first meet. then he will chase her and a few more hours he should go make a nest. Then dont bother them for at least 24 hours. usually the breeding takes place the next afternoon within 48 hours.

But also remember i know what to look for with the fish, i know when they are ready, for ur first time you might not want to do it how i do it. read alot and make sure you know what to exxpect. And the fish will hurt eachother, this is why u have to be sure you condition the male and female properly to make sure they are healthy enought to spawn. good luck

if you need more help just ask.
