+1

when the fish would be sleeping the crab could attack them. i have considered one for my tank, and also a lobster but would not take the risk of them attacking the fish. also i did read somewhere that they ned access to land, not sure which species it was.

i am sure someone with experience f keeping them would enlighten us, i am just oing by what i have been reading up on the net.

yes i think they do need a bit of land. the ones in the lfs get out and crawl all over the place, they are in all the tanks they just go where they please lol one woman was writing online that she lost hers and later found it under the sofa hahaha they sound fun to me, something for the future i think

Red crabs /red-claw crabs are brackish water crabs that aren't suited to any freshwater setup -despite most LFS not knowing this.

They can sometimes live for months in freshwater, but more often they die during a bad shed after a few weeks. They are also mainly terrestrial - so would prefer a 2/3 land 1/3 water tank.

and vampire crabs? are they fresh water? shame my lfs has all their crabs fully aquatic, no wonder they always on the escape

Vampire crabs are fresh-water, unfortunately they are less common and usually far more expensive than red claw crabs :(. They are still mainly terrestrial, however, and should have the aforementioned 2/3 of land area.
