Further info. These are lovely hardy shrimp that breed freely once settled in your tank. They browse on algae and left overs but like to be target fed now and then with good quality foods (flake, pellets frozen foods, they take anything). They add nothing to your tank in terms of bio-load and tolerate a wide range of conditions. They prefer to live in a heavily planted tanks but just give them cover of some description and they will be happy. As they mature they turn a lovely deep red colour, females being especially dark, males tend to stay a lighter colour. They are one of the easiest, yet most colourful shrimps you can keep! I have posted many hundreds of these over the last year or so and I guarantee that they will be very well packaged. They don't like to live with larger fish (catfish generally excluded here) as to put it bluntly, they will get eaten.
