I'm not sure what is going on with our lil Cid Vicious but he has these aweful looking red bumps on parts of his belly/underarm area.
I thought that they might be flea bites, but I've only seen maybe 1 or 2 fleas on him and I give him regular baths (only with puppy shampoo though). And I put some flea stuff that we got from the vet a while ago for one of our other dogs on him... so yeah.. pretty sure this isn't being caused by fleas.

Fiance thinks he might've gotten into some poison ivy or something like that in the backyard, but I'm not sure since I don't know what that would look like if he did.

These bumps are just... bleh. They're large and swollen, red, and itch. Also the ones under is front legs seem to "sweat". I've picked him up a few times and those areas have a wet feeling as if he were sweating (I know dogs don't sweat like we do in these areas).. i know it's these bumps causing this.

I think he's going to the vet this Friday so would just like some advice on what I can do to keep him comfy until then.
I try to keep him from scratching as much as I can, but of course he just goes to town when I'm not watching him and irritates these spots even more.

I can try to get some pics of the areas tomorrow if I remember.. see if anyone can ID what might be the cause for this.

Poor Cid.

i know its a shot in the dark but my dad was telling me that his dog is illergic to insect bites esp ants, and when the flying ants are around in the heat over here he has to take her to get an injection so she can cope with the uncomfortable side of it, but they still bite her and this causes red lumps all over her.

Diva had quite a few when i had her and just after i used the frontline for the fleas, vet said it was the fleas having one last bite before they flea'd off  in an attempt to still reproduce so that could be whats going on esp if they are in his warmer areas.

sounds a lot like a grass allergy to me...some plants like wandering dew and many other grasses that are in flower/seeding can cause a reaction like this. Is it summer where you are? (sorry, forgot to check before i clicked add reply if you are in uk/us) maybe you could keep him inside till you go to the vet? also a bath in a product called Malaseb (don't know if this is available where you are) will help a lot, or some Ilium Neocort cream (can't remember if that's prescription only though).
If it's an allergy, it may clear up in winter and only reoccur in summer.
From what i have seen (which ain't everything, by a long shot!), most bites cause either a severe allergic reation (swelling, windpipe obstruction etc. ) or only very temporary itching. The oozing skin sounds like a contact allergy of some kind though.
Please keep us posted on what the vet says!
Feel better soon, Cid! :shout:

My old lab mix is allergic to 'something' and once or twice a years, usually in summer she will break out w/ something simmilar.

If you can pick up a cortizone (Im sure I blew that spelling) spray over there, I have found it works wonders.

Yep it's summer here.
When we first got him, he was totally fine in our backyard when it was overgrown.
Fiance did mow the lawn and these marks did appear after that.. so who knows.

The bumps seem to have scabbed over. Least that's what it feels like. The ones that were really swollen yesterday don't feel like they are today.
I'll still try to get some pics later on when he's sleeping (less hassle heh)

Thanks everyone for the info/help! :good:

If it was poison ivy, you'd know because you'd catch it, too. I get more poison ivy as a result of being with my dogs than I do from the actual vine.

Good luck!

My friend's frenchie gets this too. She is allergic to grass, but she is also just prone to getting acne. Yep, acne. Pimples like us humans get. They can scab over because they'll pick at them. You may want to consider becoming part of a Frenchie forum. It is much easier to get advice on breed-specific things. I'm sure there are tons out there. I can't recommend one off-hand, but perhaps I'll have a chat with my friend and see what she recommends.

Welcome to Summer with a French Bulldog. You know, it might just be easier to stick her in the fridge until Fall.

Heh I am actually part of a frenchie forums :)
But since this forum is alot more active I thought I'd get more responses here than there :D

Update..
I didn't get any pics.. b/c well.. I forgot to...
The bumps are scabbed over though and not swollen.. so I guess that's a good sign that they're healing.
My poor lil Ciddy Bear....
Can the vet give him anything that will help the allergy if that is what is wrong?

If it turns out to be an allergy, there are a few things the vet might do depending on the type/severity of the reaction, and the allergen (if it can be identified).
The short answer is yes, there probably is something your vet can do, although it is most likely to be a long term control of symptoms rather than a magic bullet cure.
Your vet will probably first try to id the allergen, then may do something like prescribe antihistamines or steroids or cortisone.
There may be weekly or monthly or yearly injections, or daily tablets, or baths/creams that relieve the symptoms of an outbreak.
nb- i am not a vet  .
ps one of my dogs had acne as a pup too  !
Hope Cid feels better soon!
